Federal cabinet approves various agreements signed by govt

* Grants approval to start negotiations, signing of draft of third Frame Agreement between SUPARCO, CNSA

ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet on Wednesday gave its approval to start negotiations and signing of the draft agreement on the security of information between Pakistan and NATO.

The cabinet, which met under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, approved a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the establishment of a Joint Trade Committee between the governments of Thailand and Pakistan, according to a press release.

The cabinet also granted approval in principle to start negotiations and signing of the draft of the third Frame Agreement between Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) and China National Space Administration (CNSA) on cooperation in space science and technology.

An agreement on economic cooperation signed between the governments of Pakistan and Bulgaria was also ratified by the cabinet.

The cabinet approved the signing of the European Union’s Four Financing Agreements by which the EU has offered a grant assistance of 80 million euros to Pakistan.

The cabinet approved the Financial Protocol worth 33.44 million euros for the extension of water resources for Faisalabad City phase-I.

The loan agreement with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for the emergency road rehabilitation project was also approved by the cabinet.

The cabinet approved the Credit Facility Agreement with the French Development Agency (AFD) worth 26.5 million euros for funding the rehabilitation of the Jabban Hydroelectric Power Generation Project.

The cabinet referred the case to the Council of Common Interest for negotiations with the Ev-K2-NCR on a MoU on climate change and adaptation measures. The cabinet approved the initiation of negotiations on a MoU for cooperation in the field of housing between the Pakistan Ministry of Housing and Works and Ministry of Housing, Indonesia.

The cabinet also approved the supplementary grant of Rs 20 million for the Human Rights Division for diyat, arsh and daman fund in order to implement the decision of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

Approval was granted for signing of negotiated draft visa abolition agreement between the Pakistan and Chile governments for diplomatic and official passports holders.

The cabinet approved the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the UN and the Pakistan government regarding Deployment of Formed Policed Unit in Sudan (DARFUR).

Approval in principle was granted to start negotiations for Pakistan’s membership of forum of federation. The cabinet allowed starting negotiations with the Republic of Tajikistan to conclude a MoU on cooperation in the field of vocational training.
