Federal Board of Revenue Enforces Immediate Media Interaction Ban

Pakistan Press Foundation

On April 3, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) implemented a strict ban preventing all officers from interacting with the media personnel. The FBR Chairman Malik Amjed Zubair Tiwana enforced  the ban with immediate effect.  This decisive measure comes in response to instances of officials bypassing established protocols and contacting the press without prior approval.

An official FBR notification states, “This practice is a violation of the conduct rules. It is, therefore, directed that henceforth, no officer/official except the spokesperson FBR, is allowed to interact with media persons on any issue.”

FBR also prohibited officials from using social media platforms, such as Twitter, to discuss the organization’s performance or policy decisions. This privilege is reserved solely for the official FBR spokesperson.
