Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) takes notice of advertisements by Sindh government during LG polls

KARACHI: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) took notice of the advertisement running on media by the Sindh government during LG polls in Karachi and Hyderabad today.

The ECP has contacted Chief Secretary Sindh and Chairman PEMRA in this regard and termed the running of the advertisement as a violation of the code of conduct.

The ECP maintained that attempts are being made to influence the electoral process and issued instructions to Chairman PEMRA to immediately halt the advertisements by Sindh government.

Pertinently, polls are underway in Karachi and Hyderabad.

Over 3.4 million people have been exercising their right to elect the local government.

Polling has been taking place in seven districts of Karachi and nine districts of the Hyderabad division.

Strict security measures have been put in place to ensure transparency. According to reports, police have deployed 52,591 officers to perform security duties in the city. This includes 35,360 personnel of Karachi Police while 17,231 have been brought from other districts of Sindh.
