Durrani opens first women varsity

PESHAWAR – The NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani while jubilating the establishment of first women university in the province (NWFP) has regretted that their opponents are unable to visualize the revolutionary steps being initiated by the Mutahidda Majlis-e- Amal government.

Such elements are black-banded as neither they witness achievements of the MMA government nor they visualize our revolutionary steps for development of the province and welfare of its people, he remarked while addressing inaugural ceremony of the first women university of the province at Peshawar on Wednesday morning. The inaugural ceremony of Women University beside others was attended by jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) provincial general secretary Senator Gul Naseeb Khan, Provincial ministers Maulana Fazal Ali, Hussain Ahmad, Kanjo, Sardar Mohammad Idrees, Hafiz Hash mat Khan, Hafiz Akhtar Ali and others.

The first Women university of NWFP was established, in premises of the Frontier College for Women. So far, the Frontier University for Women would function in the extended portions of the Girls College but with the passage of time the government likely to allocate separate campus for it.

The proposed campus beside other educational institutions would also comprise Women Medical College. At this stage a separate campus for the female students of Khyber Medical College was opened in Hayatabad.

Expressing his pleasure-over honouring of the MMA promise regarding separate university for female students from all over the province, Chief Minister termed it a milestone in the history of province. He said, we favour and dignity for women in every sphere of life and on such grounds, they established this institution.

He added that with getting a separate University the female students would get higher education opportunities. He said that such educated women would play a key role not only in promotion of the educational activities but also in development of the province and welfare of its people.

Apart from the Women University, the NWFP Chief Minister said that the MMA government has also made tremendous achievements for ensuring active participation of women in different walks of life. In this connection, he diverted attentions towards establishment of a separate women medical college, sports directorate, starting of postgraduate classes in women degree colleges and others. While in education sector, he said that a network from primary schools to higher educational institutions was established. The education has already been made free upto matric and textbooks are being provided free of cost to the students.

Durrani has reminded that for enhancing literacy and promotion of educational activities, the NWFP government is going to embark on Education for All a plan, whereas each and every person of the province would get educational opportunities at doorsteps.
