Dr Nabi Bakhsh Baloch hailed for his literary contributions

Karachi: Sindh Culture Minister Sassui Palijo has said Dr Nabi Bakhsh Baloch was one of the unique personalities who had worked in folklore, literature, linguistic, education, history, civilization and culture.

Palijo said Dr Baloch had also done unique research and revealed through his work important knowledge to enlighten the generations to come.

This she observed while addressing a condolence reference in memory of Dr Baloch organised by Sindh Culture Department in collaboration with Sindh Graduates Association (SGA) at a local hotel here on Tuesday. She also said his death would create a vacuum.

The minister said Dr Baloch’s unpublished work would be published in English to enlighten the younger generation about his creative work and services. “We have compared our culture, history and civilization with Egyptian civilization and have given a message that we are not fighters but when someone attacked us, we showed spirit and enthusiasm against the attackers,” Palijo said.

Culture department had acknowledged the literary figure and a corner had been established in Sindh Museum in Dr Baloch’s memory. Bhit Shah Excellence Centre has been renamed after Dr Baloch, while a summary was sent to the Chief Minister Sindh to suggest renaming of Central Library after him. A chair may also be established in the University of Sindh and at least a road will be named after him in Sukkur, Larkana and Hyderabad.

Palijo said to protect and preserve the cultural heritage, the department had declared 1061 buildings as Cultural Heritage, for which many steps had already been taken.
