RAWALPINDI: Cricket clubs of Rawalpindi and Islamabad and members of civil society held a protest demonstration here on Saturday against the closure of Geo Super and youth channel Aag.

Cricket Academy Rawalpindi, Gymkhana Academy, Gulshan Cricket Club, Osma Aziz Cricket Club, and members of civil society participated in the demonstration which was held at Chandni Chowk, Rawalpindi.

Sardar Amjad strongly condemned banning of both the channels and termed the step as unwarranted.

While addressing the protesters he said there were no proper playgrounds and the youth were not being provided recreation by the State and only Geo Super and Aag channels used to provide recreation but this became bad in the eyes of President Zardari.

Ustad Tauqeer Shah said all was being done at the behest of the administration and Geo Super and Aag channel have to face the consequence for speaking truth.

While addressing the participants, President Civil Society Azhar Mir said the silence of the government was a proof that Geo Super and Aag had been shut down with the approval of President Zardari and Prime Minister Gilani so that the owners of the channels bow down to the government.

He urged the government to stop resorting to such tactics and said: “When oppression crosses the limits, it vanishes.”

He said the government had been targeting Jang Group since 2009 and wants to teach a lesson to the owners.

He reminded that such an exercise was undertaken by army dictator Musharraf which met failure. Usatd Abdul Aziz Qaisar Khan also addressed the protesters.
