CPNE resents raid on Shae-rug Editor’s office

KARACHI- The Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) has strongly resented the police raid on the office of the Editor-in-Chief of Monthly, Lahore, Khalid Mehmood Shah.

In a press statement issued on Monday, CPNE condemned the incident in which Khalid Mehmood Shah was targeted and kept hostage and his office was badly ransacked.

The Secretary General, CPNE, Dr Jabbar Khattak, also strongly denounced the police raid on the office of Khalid Mehmood Shah, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of CPNE.

He alleged that during the raid Khalid Mehmood was kept hostage in his office for two days and all assets and equipment were taken away by police personnel.

He said that such a veteran and competent journalist is being subjected to these kinds of oppressive and suppressive tactics just because of his anti-government stand.

He demanded of the Chief Minister of Punjab to constitute a high-level inquiry against police personnel involved in this unconstitutional act and to take punitive action against them.
