Country cut off from Web

KARACHI- The country lost its connection to the world wide web on July 7th, 2003 when two Internet links of the Pakistan Telecommunication Company gave way.

A Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) spokesman said that a link between the International Gateway Exchange and Hawkesbay – which is known as SEA-ME-WE 3 (South East Asia, Middle East and Western Europe) link in technical parlance – was damaged at around 3.30pm.

He said one of the two antennas of a PTCL satellite station at Dehmandaro had also been damaged at about 6.30 pm.

The spokesman conceded that the country was cut off from the rest of the world. He said many teams of engineers were working round the clock to repair the faults.
