CPNE awards instituted for promotion of journalism

ISLAMABAD- The Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) observed one minute silence to express its profound grief over the loss of lives in the recent terrorist attacks in the United States in its meeting.

Mujib-ur-Rahman Shami, President of the CPNE, presided over the meeting.

A press release issued by the Secretary-General of the CPNE, Zahid Malik, further said that the Standing Committee of CPNE in its meeting also offered its condolences to the bereaved families and expressed its solidarity with the Government of Pakistan in particular and the world community in general in condemning such gruesome terrorist attacks in the strongest terms.

The standing Committee decided to institute CPNE Awards for the promotion and recognition of professional excellence in journalism in the country. These awards will be named after famous personalities, who have left indelible marks in the history of the profession. The meeting also decided to hold a workshop/seminar with a view to imparting and improving professional skills of the young journalists and to provide opportunities for attaining professional excellence.

The meeting also decided to start enrolment of new members of the CPNE for which a number of committees at provincial and regional levels were constituted.
