Cop dismissed for torturing newsmen

MULTAN- Senior superintend Police (SSP) Multan, Malik Ahmad Raza Tahir has dismissed a constable Shahzad Ahmad for torturing journalists and photographers during a Youth Organization demonstration at Chowk Town Hall and has ordered an official inquiry against him.

The SSP termed journalism as the fourth pillar of the state and they have to perform their duties even in dangerous circumstances. He said that the Commissioner Multan had already ordered a probe into the torture incident and anyone found guilty in the inquiry report would not be spared at all.

Almost all leaders of political and religious parties and social organizations have strongly condemned the police baton charge on photographers and the journalists and have demanded the government to immediately arrest all those police officials responsible for torturing the photographers and journalists.

The leaders of various parties and organizations expressed their view at a meeting held here under the auspices of Citizen Council Multan under the chairmanship of convenor Youth Organization Multan Qari Mohammad Hanif Jalandhri.

They demanded the immediate arrest of those police official who were responsible for baton charge on journalists and press photographers in Multan.
