CDGK to introduce video surveillance system at two signal-free corridors

The City District Government Karachi (CDGK) is set to use computer technology at two signal-free corridors by having installed Wireless Video Security and Surveillance System (WVSSS) at a particular location to keep vigil on traffic movements.

The News learnt on Monday that the WVSSS system would be controlled from a control room which would help detect traffic violations and prevent traffic congestion. Sources said that this system would help keep eye on suspicious activities or street crime in the vicinity of the installed cameras and it is also being planned that if the system yielded positive results than it could be promoted on a large scale.

The sources said the camera surveillance system is already in vogue in different cities of the United States.

The city government is also trying to contain rampant corruption in the land department of the CDGK through Land Management System (LMS) which would help citizens identify any ambiguities in ownership of real estate and prevent fraudulent activities and property related disputes.

City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal while talking to The News said the only way out to minimize corruption in different departments of the CDGK is to introduce modern technology making the administrative procedure easier and efficient for the betterment of the citizens.

Mustafa said for this purpose the Health Management and Information System (HMIS) has already been introduced at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital to enhance transparency, reduce pilferage and increase accountability of the hospital staff for the benefit of the patients. The City Nazim said the HMIS would ensure best practices in the hospital administration which will help keep eye on the attendance of the whole staff including doctors.
