Bollywood stars to appear on PTV telethon

ISLAMABAD, June 10 2006: Bollywood mega stars will appear on Pakistan Television n June 24-25 in a live telethon to raise funds for October 8 earthquake victims. Speaking at a news conference here on June 09. Acting PTV managing-director Ashraf Azeem told reporters Javed Akhtar, Shabana Azami, Zeenat Aman, Celina Jaitly and Gulshan Grover would be amongst the top Indian stars to help PTV in generating funds for this humanitarian cause.

In a major departure from its stance since the launch of state-owned channel, Ashraf Azeem said Pakistan Television was planning to screen Mughal-e-Azam in near future. Unveiling details of the two-day telethon, he said the event would be telecast live from Karachi in which more than a dozen Bollywood stars have confirmed their participation to help the people in need.

Besides, those who have confirmed their participation are Jackie Shroff, Aftab Shivdasani, Dino Morea, Urmila Matondkar, Shilpa Shetty, Amisha Patel, Raza Murad, Dalip Tahil, Prem Chopra, Isha Koppikar, Neha Dhupia and Tanushree Dutta. Replying to a question, Azeem said the PTV would screen Mughal-e-Azam in near future. Nadeem Mandviwala, film distributor was also present on the occasion. Acting managing-director also spoke on PTV internal affairs and said the institution was being revamped and restructured to improve its performance.

About news and current affairs programmes, Ashraf Azeem told reporters newsworthiness will be kept supreme and opposition political parties would also be given maximum coverage. He continued they were planning to launch a sports channel soon and added the PTV has got exclusive rights to telecast FIFA World Cup 2006.
