Baitul Mal runs 134 women training centres

ISLAMABAD, August 27 2006: Managing Director Baitul Mal, M Sarfraz on Saturday (Aug 26) said that Baitul Maal was running 134 women training centres in the country, where women are provided skills and training to generate income. He said this, while talking to PTV, he said the women were learning skills in these centres are also provided funds up to Rs 30,000, so that they could start a business for themselves. He said, budget of Baitul Maal has increased Rs 11 million as compared to last year’s budget, which shows how much government is concerned for deserving people.

The budget of Baitul Mal has reached Rs 5 billion and the number of beneficiaries has reached to 2 million families, he added. Sarfraz said that the largest scheme of Baitul Mal is “Food Support Programme” which was started in 2001 and there are its 1.25 million beneficiaries. He said, there was a committee in every district headed by Nazim and the members are from public, so that deserving people could get their basics from grassroots level. There are complaint cells so that people could easily approach them, he added.

MD Baitul Mal said, they provided medical assistance up to Rs 300,000 for patients who have diseases like heart surgery, hepatitis and cancer adding that last year almost 15,000 such patients were treated through this scheme.
