Attempts to harass media condemned

KARACHI: A joint meeting of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) and Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors has condemned the suspension of transmission of two TV channels and attempts to harass and browbeat the media.

According to a press release, the meeting held here on Tuesday also criticised attacks on the Jang group’s building and burning of newspapers published by the group. It blamed the ruling party for the ‘acts of vandalism’ and described it as an assault on Press freedom.

The meeting called upon all media-related organisations to unite and forcefully defend freedom of the press.

Meanwhile, unions of journalists, affiliated with the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists, held protest demonstrating in Karachi, Islamabad and other cities and towns in the country and expressed their resolve to continue their struggle for media freedom.
