Pemra reminds four cable operators to restore Geo

KARACHI: The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has once again warned some cable operators and media communication companies to resume transmission of Geo News and ARY News or else be ready to face legal action.

In separate letters to Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of Ws Media Plus Communications (MPC), Ws Karachi Cable Services (KCS), M/s City Communications and Ws World Call (Pvt) Ltd, PEMRA’s General Manager (Legal) Nasir Ayaz has directed these companies and cable operators to resume transmissions of Geo News and ARY News without any further delay.

These letters with subject “Distribution of PEMRA licensed Channels on Cable TV Network” say these reminders are continuation of previous directives issued to them by Pemra on August 9 for resuming both News channels’ transmission immediately.

The reminders state that it has been noticed that transmission of TV channels namely GEO News and ARY News has not yet been resumed on certain cable networks in Karachi despite explicit directives of the Authority asking to restore the same.

`You are hereby directed to ensure strict compliance of the above (order). Any further non- adherence in this regard shall be liable to legal action,” the letters signed by GM (legal) of PEMRA Nasir Ayaz conclude.

It is worth mentioning here that cable TV viewers are unable to watch Geo News and ARY News transmissions in some parts of Pakistan after the channels carried the news regarding the tossing of shoes at President Asif Zardari while he was addressing a party gathering in Birmingham a couple of days back.
