Asma’s solution to crisis
LAHORE, Nov 6: Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) Chairperson Asma Jehangir sees no other solution to the ongoing crisis except forming a government of national reconciliation minus Gen Pervez Musharraf.
In an e-mail message on Tuesday, she said the proposed set-up must be backed by the military.
She also called upon the international community to insist on preventive measures, otherwise cleaning up the mess may take decades.
“We want friends of Pakistan to urge the US administration to stop all support to the dictator, as his lust for power is bringing the country close to a worse form of civil strife.”
She said lawyers and civil society would challenge the government and the scene was likely to get uglier notwithstanding the strong crackdown on press and the lawyers’ community.
