ARY, Ten Sports reconcile

LAHORE – ARY Digital and Ten Sports reached an agreement in court on September 27, whereby they will jointly telecast the triangular cricket series that is scheduled to start on September 30.

As the two channels reached an agreement, Justice Jamshed Ali of the Lahore High court on September 27, disposed of their appeals. As per the agreement both the parties will equally share the production cost of $1.1 million to telecast the series.

During the One Day Internationals neither one of the channels will use its logo, however, both logos will be used during the telecasting of the two tests. Both parties agreed that the commentators should announce that the series is being jointly telecasted by ARY and Ten Sports after every 30 minutes.

As per the agreement submitted in court both channels will broadcast the matches. However, the agreement will apply only to televise the forthcoming triangular series between Pakistan, Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka and the two test matches between Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

Ten Sports will also withdraw its civil suit, the hearing for which was scheduled for September 28 (today), which would have been presided over by Civil Judge Tariq Mehmood.

Ten Sports, which belongs to Taj Television Limited, a Dubai-based company, contested ARY’s rights to telecast the series and was granted an interim injunction from the civil court restraining ARY from telecasting the matches played in Pakistan. The court, however, vacated the interim injunction on the application of ARY.

Ten Sports later filed an appeal in the Lahore High Court to overrule the civil court’s order, however, ARY filed a writ petition seeking permission for the joint rights of producing the series with Ten Sports and to restrain the Pakistan Cricket Board from granting the series rights to Ten Sports. Differences emerged between the two channels during the Pakistan and India series in March.
