APNS petition adjourned to April 01

ISLAMABAD- The case of All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) against the laws governing press employees was once again adjourned as all lawyers representing the parties were not present before the First Bench of the Supreme Court on March 24, 2003.

At the outset, Afzal Siddiqui said that Abdul Hafeez Pirzada, counsel of APNS, had returned from abroad but was resting, under medical advice, at Karachi.

He said that Pirzada can present himself before the Court by March 27, and requested an adjournment till that date.

It also came to be known that Akram Sheikh and Abid Hassan Manto, representing the journalists, were not present, as Akram Sheikh was away to attend his mother’s last rites and Manto knew about Pirzada’s inability to be present.

The Attorney General’s deputies said that Makhdoom Ali Khan was to be away from the capital on March 27, 2003, the date requested on behalf of Pirzada, and it was suggested to move the case to next week.

So, Chief Justice Sheikh Riaz Ahmed ordered that case be fixed for April 1.
