All breached dykes to be repaired by May: Sindh CM

KARACHI: All dykes breached during the recent floods in the province would be strengthened by May, said Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah and added that President Zardari issued these directives.

Addressing a press conference at the CM House here on Friday, he said the president had placed special directives for early rehabilitation of the flood-stricken people of Sindh.

Earlier, the federal government had announced Rs 5 billion for dykes’ repair to Sindh province and of this amount Rs 2.5 billion would be immediately released to the province, he said, adding, the repair and strengthening work on dykes and embankments in Sindh is already underway.

Shah said that whenever the president arrives in the city he always meets with the party leaders and workers of the province. President Zardari has been in constant touch with the people, he added.

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Women Wing’s chief Faryal Talpur said that all ministers had been working according to there abilities in the province and no one had been interfering in their affairs. She welcomed those who joined the PPP and hoped that they would respect the party discipline and work for the masses to promote the cause of Shaheed Zulfikhar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto. The cause of Bhuttoism is gaining popularity across the country, she added.

During the press conference Pir Noor Mohammed Shah Jilani, Asfandyar Jilani and Abdul Nabi Sadarani announced their decision to join the PPP and said that they had full confidence in President Zardari and would completely respect and follow the discipline of PPP.
