AIOU opts for online courses to facilitate students

Islamabad – Alama Iqbal Open University has opted for modern technology by offering online courses for domestic and foreign students.

The AIOU, while ensuring its original character, will gradually emerge as Electronic Open University, offering Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) to enhance and promote online academic programmes.

This is aimed at facilitating thousands of students, particularly those living abroad, on affordable fee structure.

Automated educational services and digital academic contents will be made available to the students from Basic Literacy to Ph.D level, said Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Shahid Siddiqui while presiding over a briefing session on E-Leaning held here.
The University, he said has achieved another milestone by embarking upon on massive e-learning activities.

The AIOU will be the first in the country, adopting the MOOCs system which has emerged as a popular mode of learning worldwide.

The facility to be provided via web, will have virtual class room, besides availability of online interactive study material. Entire learners’ support system and continuous assessment will be web-based and ICT mediated. The students will be able to submit their assignments through online as well.

They will have regular interactive sessions with the teachers by text chatting, video conferencing and desktop and white board sharing.

Dr Shahid Siddiqui said initially online educational contents delivery facility was being offered to the student of five academic programs.

He further said the University has started a process of capacity building training on E-content development and delivery to the M.Phil and Ph.D-level courses coordinators under the auspices of Directorate of Overseas Educational Programs and E-Learning.

The Directorate of Overseas Educational Programs is actively engaged for expansion and improvement of services for overseas students.
