3,163 children languishing in 86 prisons

RAWALPINDI – The Global Foundation (GF), in a report has stated that there are more than 3,163 children languishing in 86 prisons of Pakistan and are facing harsh and inhuman attitude of jail officials which would ruin their future.

Giving the details of the report, President and Executive Director of the Foundation, Syed Ulfat Hussain Kazmi, said that Punjab has highest number of juvenile inmates as 2,137 children are detained in 29 prisons of the province.

Kazmi said that a certain rise in juvenile crimes was witnessed in Punjab which has reached to an alarming point.

“Government should take the matter seriously and measures should be adopted to change the behaviour of children”, he added.
