25 percent official ads quota for newspapers

SARGODHA- The Punjab government will ensure the equal distribution of 25 per cent quota of official advertisements for local and regional newspapers to save them from financial hurdles.

This was said by Secretary Information, Culture and Youth Affairs, Punjab, Taimoor Azmat Usman here at Sargodha Press Club during the meeting with mediamen.

District Nazim, Malik Amjad Ali Noon, District Co-ordination Officer (DCO) Hassan Iqbal, President, Sargodha Press Club, Sajjad Abbas Niazi and Editors and representatives of local and national newspapers attended the meeting.

He further said that role of regional newspapers in highlighting the local problems despite limited sources, could not be denied.

Responding to a demand, the Secretary assured that strategy would be chalked out for the distribution of advertisements pertaining to the district governments, Union Councils, and other autonomous bodies through local Public Relations Officers, avoiding the injustice in this respect and to wipe out monopoly of the Centre.

Secretary Punjab expressed that media should project the public welfare schemes besides healthy criticism.

He revealed that Chief Minister Punjab, Ch. Pervaiz Elahi had declared to set up a foundation with an initial fund of Rs. 25 hundred thousand for the development projects of Press Clubs, proportional representation of regional Press in professional issues and inter-provinces visits of newsmen’s delegations and their welfare. President of Sargodha Press Club, Sajjad Abbas Niazi in his welcome address, apprised the chief guest about the problem being faced by the local press and called for their early redressal.
