Widespread condemnation of bomb blast at newspaper office

KARACHI- Condemning the bomb blast at the office of a local newspaper in which three persons were killed and many others injured, political circles termed the act failure of the government to protect the lives and property of the citizens. The leaders of different political parties visited the site of the bomb blast and inquired about the situation. The Coordination Committee of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement termed the act a conspiracy to disturb the city peace and said that the incident exposed the failure of the government to maintain peace and provide protection to people. The committee members offered condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for early recovery of health of injured people.

Expressing concern, the PPP vice-chairman Makhdoom Amin Fahim said that it was the failure of the regime to protect the lives and property of the people. The bomb blast exposed the inefficiency of the rulers he added. He offered condolences to the families of the victims and demanded compensation for the affected families.

The Secretary-General of the PML (N), Sindh, Capt Haleem Siddiqui, termed the law and order situation as the worst-ever. He said that maintaining the law and order was the responsibility of the government but the present regime failed to provide protection to the citizens. He said that only a democratic government could control the situation and demanded of the regime to restore the democratic system. The PML (N) city leaders Nihal Hashmi, Mukhtar Kanhori and Khawaja Tariq also condemned the incident.

The Chairperson of the PPP (SB), Ghinwa Bhutto demanded of the government to the measures to remove the fear prevailing among the people. She said that it was a new wave of terrorism and this time the terrorists were targeting newspapers offices. She also demanded compensation for the victims. The city JI chief, Naimatullah Khan expressed profound grief over the bomb blast and termed it as an attack on the freedom of press. He said the incident depicted that law and order situation in the metropolis was deteriorating and demanded of the government to probe into the terrorist activities and bring the culprits to book.

Leader of Tehreek-e-Jafferia Pakistan (TJP), Allama Hassan Turrabi has condemned the killing of three people and injuring various in the bomb blast. He said if the people were not protected they would be justified to suspect that the administration was a co-partner in the happening of bomb blast and other terrorist activities. He demanded to immediately arrest the killers and compensate the victims.

The provincial leaders of Pakistan Awami Tehreek, Qazi Zahid Hussain, Iftikhar Bukhari and Masood Hashmi also condemned the incident. The KUJ (Dastoori) President Maqsood Yousfi and Tariq Abul Hasan also condemned the bomb blast and demanded of the government to expose the criminals, pay compensation to the next-of-kin of the victims, and provide medical facilities to injured.

The Karachi Union of Journalists has condemned the bomb blast and termed it an attack on the freedom of press. In a statement, KUJ President Sarfaraz Ahmed and General Secretary Tahir Najmi said that it was the second attack on newspapers in Karachi during the current year. They demanded of the authorities to initiate a probe into the matter and award exemplary punishment to all those involved in the blast. Expressing condolence on the death of the newspaper staff, the KUJ office-bearers demanded compensation for the families of the victims of the blast.
