Pakistan Press Foundation expressed concern on travel ban on Bahrain’s prominent human rights activist
Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF) in a letter to Shaikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa,Amir of Bahrain expressed concern over ongoing travel ban on Nabeel Rajab, President & Co-founder of Bahrain Centre for Human Rights and Deputy Secretary General of International Federation for Human Rights who faces up to 10 years in prison for “insulting a statutory body and disseminating false rumours in time of war.”
PPF Secretary General Owais Aslam Ali in his letter urged Amir of Bahrain to lift the travel ban and withdraw all charges against Rajab, one of the most prominent defenders of human rights, who has been arrested and incarcerated several times. He said despite release from prison by Royal pardon, travel ban and looming charges against him prevent Rajab from freely pursuing his work as a human rights activist.
He was arrested on 2 April 2015 for tweeting on alleged instances of torture at Bahrain’s Jaw prison, released on 3 July for health reasons by a Royal pardon but new travel ban imposed against him and he still could face up to 10 years in prison.
