Karachi, Mumbai press clubs urge liberalisation of visa regime

Karachi: The Karachi Press Club and the Press Club Mumbai have welcomed a meeting scheduled to be held between Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar and her Indian counterpart S M Krishna in Islamabad on September 7-9.

Both the foreign ministers will be reviewing the peace process that resumed last year.

“We hope both foreign ministers will give due attention to our demands,” they said in a statement released on Wednesday.

The press clubs reiterated their demands for free movement of journalists between the two countries in order to promote people-to-people contacts and ensure peace in the subcontinent.

They further demanded that the visa regime should be liberalised for the journalist community and visas made easily available. The press clubs said that the practice of allowing only two journalists from each country to work should be done away with and there should not be restrictions on the number of journalists in this regard. More and more journalists from both countries should be encouraged and allowed to move easily.
