11 including journalist killed in Jamrud blast

At least 11 people, including an official of local traditional (Khasadar) force and a journalist, were killed and over 30 others injured as a bomber rammed his explosive-laden bike into the vehicle of the patrolling tribal force in Wazir Dhand area of Jamrud, Khyber Agency on Tuesday. Out of the total 11 victims, two have been identified as Nawab Shah, Assistant Line Officer and Mehboob Shah a tribal journalist.

Around 10 to 14 kilograms explosives were used in the explosion, said an official of the Bomb Disposal Squad. The officials have found the head and legs of the bomber from the site. The death toll may rise as conditions of several victims were stated to be critical.

The political administrator of the agency told reporters at the site that Khasadar Force was the target of the bomber. He said such cowardice act could not deter our determination in the fight against terrorism and elements involved in it would be dealt with full might. Emergency has been declared in the city hospital and injured were shifted to Jamurd and Hayatabad Medical Complex Peshawar. The police and Khasdar Force cordoned off the area and started search operation.

Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan on Tuesday has strongly condemned a bomb blast near a Khasadar Chek post at Karkhano market in Tehsil Jamrud of Khyber agency and expressed his deep shock and sorrow over the loss of precious lives in the blast.

Soon after the incident took place, the Governor telephoned the political agent of Khyber agency and directed him to submit a detailed report immediately. He further directed to investigate the incident and probe into the matter with the collaboration of other security forces and take action against the culprits and their facilitators.

Governor Sardar Mahtab also directed the political administration to expedite the rescue efforts and relief activities and provide the best medical treatment to the injured. He announced the compensation package for the injured and the families of martyrs and directed the relevant authorities to expedite the relief activities and ensure the best medical care of those injured on government expenses and said that no compromise would be tolerated in the best treatment of victims.

In a statement, the Governor expressed heartfelt sympathies with the members of the bereaved families and injured and assured that innocent people would not be left at the mercy of terrorist and termed the terrorist blast as cowardly act of terror. Governor said such attacks could not deter the national resolve to eliminate the wave of militancy and menace of terrorism. He said that those who play with the innocent lives deserve no leniency and will be brought to the court of justice. He said that Pakistani nation stand united with military in the war against terrorism and it will be rooted out with the force of unity.
