Zafar Samdani passes away

LAHORE, June 05 2006: Noted journalist Zafar Samdani died of throat cancer here on May 04. He was 72. Beginning his career as a reporter with the Pakistan Times, Mr Samdani joined Pakistan Television after its inception in 1964. He was one of the pioneers of PTV’s news section. He retired from PTV as director news and after a stint with The Nation daily as a free-lancer, he joined Karachi’s evening The Star. Later, he joined The Frontier Post, Lahore, as its editor.

He was a versatile free-lancer and a recognised film critic. He used to write on almost every subject, from sports to art, culture and economy. He was a regular columnist of Dawn and his articles also appeared in the Khaleej Times of Dubai. He was admired as a thorough gentleman and an affectionate friend.His funeral procession will leave his residence, 204-P, Model Town, Lahore, at 1pm.
