Writers pay tribute to comrade Abro

HYDERABAD: Rich tributes were paid by the writers and intellectuals of Sindh to comrade Taj Mohammad Abro for his struggle in the cause of peasants and workers at his 24th death anniversary organised by the Sindh culture department and Sindhi Language Authority here on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, renowned intellectual and scholar, Mohammad Ibrahim Joyo said that comrade Taj Mohammad Abro was a committed person who devoted his entire life in the service of the nation.

He said comrade Abro was an enlightened person and, throughout his life, he struggled for the cause of downtrodden.

Noted leftist leader, comrade Jam Saqi said that the services rendered by late comrade could never be forgotten.

He said comrade Abro was not only a social activist but he had also rendered yeomen services in the cause of education and promotion of Sindhi language.

Provincial adviser, Sarfaraz Rajar, said that it was the duty of the Sindhi people to acknowledge the services of comrade Abro. Others who paid tributes to the late comrade included Dr Fehmida Hussain and Shahida Abro.

VOTERS LISTS: Civil society leaders have said that errors in the voters’ lists and big constituencies were a great challenge for the democratic system and demanded correct voters lists besides smaller constituencies before the next general elections.

They were speaking at a dialogue on the subject of “Next elections — A Challenge for democracy”, jointly organised by Pakistan Liberal Forum and SPO here on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, Ghulam Mustafa Baloch of SPO said that undemocratic forces always influenced the elections in Pakistan.

He said tribal disputes had been created in those districts and feudal system was enforced on the basis of tribes where people played a remarkable role in the MRD Movement.

Jami Chandio said that internal controversies could be resolved through democratic process. Anwar Ahmed said that the turmoil in Balochistan was a great challenge for the democratic government.
