Women’s bill to boost soft image of country: Malik

ISLAMABAD: Women Development and Youth Affairs Minister Sumaira Malik said on Friday the government wanted to bring womenfolk into the mainstream of development by providing them respectable status through enactment of the WomenÂ’s Rights Protection Bill. She said the government would get the Women Rights Protection Bill passed in the next session of National Assembly. The passage of the bill would also give boost to the country’s soft image. She said the bill had been drafted in line with teachings of the Holy Qur’aan and the Sunnah. “Efforts are also underway to prevent harassment against women at workplace through another legislation to ensure comfortable working environment for them,” she added.

Malik said the government was alive to the difficulties being faced by women and the ministry’s programmes, especially the women’s political school, which was effectively empowering the segment at grass roots level. She said that the ministry was also taking steps to increase the number of its women centres that would serve as vocational institutions, where women in distress would be acquiring training in different skills and make earning for their economic welfare.
