Women traffickers arrested

SUKKUR – A heavy contingent of elite force raided a village near Rajanpur on September 6, and recovered nine smuggled women, huge quantity of arms and ammunition.

Authorities were tipped off about the smuggling of women. An elite force party raid the village early on September 6morning. They cordoned off the area and the culprits opened fire on the police, which was returned. The encounter lasted for two hours, following which the police succeeded in arresting six people, including and influential person of the area. Nine smuggled women and huge quantity of arms and ammunition were recovered. Three of the women are Bangladeshis, three Indian, while one belongs to Sargodha and two are from Lahore. The police sources said the smugglers used to sell these women in interior Sindh and Balochistan. They further said the recovered women, aged between 16 to 25, have been identified as Kausar Parveen, Shagufta, Imam Zadi, Shahida, Jamalan, Perveen Bibi, Um Zadi, Umm-e-Kulsoom and Fahmida.

Reports said some villagers and four policemen were injured in the encounter. They included Abdullah Pitafi, Anwar Gargejo, Ibrahim Jat and others.

Police sources gave no confirmation about the injured and also declined to disclose the names of the arrested persons. It was learnt from other sources that one of them belongs to Kashmore, one from Ghotki, one from Dera Murad Jamali while the remaining three belong to Punjab. Further investigation is under way.
