Women’s Day goes unnoticed in N. Areas
GILGIT, March 9: Like other important days that are celebrated globally, the International Women’s Day in the Northern Areas also went without any event or celebrations.
Not a single event was reported from any of the six districts, despite the tall claims made by various NGOs purportedly working for amelioration and emancipation of women in the region.
Some women activists said that it showed the general apathy towards the issues of women in the region and lack of awareness among the masses about global events.
They said that a number of organisations have been championing the cause of women but they were found interested only in collecting funds.
