Woman, man shot dead

TIMERGARA, June 10 2006: A woman and a man were killed over the suspicion of having illicit relations in Tormang village in Lower Dir on June 09. Victim Awal Zeb in his statement before death told the Khal police that he had been shot at and injured by Muhtaj, son of Mian Gul, over suspicion he had illicit relations with his sister-in-law.

Later, Awal Zeb died in a hospital. He leaves behind his wife and three children. Police, after registering the case, initiated an investigation and found out that after firing on Awal Zeb, Muhtaj went to his own house and shot dead his sister-in-law, The husband of the deceased woman is said to be working in a Gulf state.

COUPLE KILLED: In another case of honour killing three days ago, a couple of Munjai village in the Balambat area was killed in Gujranwala (Punjab) where they had shifted after marrying of their own choice. The couple has left behind a boy of six months of age.

The two bodies were brought from to Munjai village for burial, but the local people refused to perform last rites on the bodies. However, the bodies were buried after funeral prayers were held in the presence of police officials. The incidence of honour killing is on the rise in the area after a jirga in Karo Darra encouraged people to kill the women and men having illicit relations with each others.
