Wage Board Chairman appoints body to reach settlement

LAHORE- The Chairman of the Seventh Wage Board for Newspaper Employees, Justice Raja Muhammad Afrasiab Khan (retd), has appointed a Committee of employers and employees to arrive at a consensus for the settlement of disputes.

The decision was taken at the conclusion of the two-day meeting, presided over by the Chairman.

The committee comprises All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) president Hameed Haroon, who will nominate one more member from among the employers representing on the Wage Board. Pakistan Federal Union of. Journalists (PFUJ) President I.H. Rashid and All Pakistan Newspapers Employees Confederation Secretary-General Pervez Shaukat will represent employees on the committee.

During the two-day meeting of the board in Lahore, as many as 20 witnesses appeared before the Chairman and gave evidence covering all areas of employment, wages, working conditions and, fringe benefits.

The board is scheduled to hold its next meeting in Islamabad on September 6 and 7. The final meeting of the board will be held in Peshawar on September 8. Friday’s meeting was attended by the PFUJ and the All Pakistan Newspapers Employees Confederation (APNEC) office bearers and representatives of trade unions in newspapers. The APNS representatives did not turn up.

FINAL MEETING: Another report from Rawalpindi said the final meeting of the Wage Board for Newspaper Employees would be held in Peshawar on September 8.

The Chairman of the Seventh Wage Board for Newspaper Employees, Justice Raja Mohammad Afrasiab Khan (former), will preside.

Prior to the final meeting, a meeting of the wage board will be held in Islamabad on September 6 and 7.
