Wage award implementation demanded

KARACHI, August 31 2006: A joint protest meeting of Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ) and the local chapter of All Pakistan News Paper Employees Confederation (APNEC) has demanded the immediate implementation of 7th Wage Award and formation of 8th Wage Board at a meeting held at Karachi press club, according to a press release. The meeting supported the call of PFUJ and the central APNEC for “train march” and sitting outside the Prime Minister’s house on September 15. Speakers includes former chairman of APNEC and President of PFUJ Abdul Hameed Chappra, PFUJ secretary general Mazhar Abbas, Chairman APNEC, Karachi, Zakir Ansar, senior Vice Chairman of central APNEC, Muhammad Saeed and leaders KUJ and CBA unions vowed to continue their struggle till victory.

They appealed to the political parties trade union and civil society to join the struggle of PFUJ and APNEC for freedom of expressions, better working conditions, abolishment of contractual employment and rule of law in the country. They lashed out the government of President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz for the failure implement the law of land. The speaker also condemned the murder of veteran politician Nawab Akbar Bugti and termed the killing targeted and termed it a National Tragedy.
