WAF backs journalists
Women’s Action Forum (WAF) supports various journalist organisations protesting against the government’s move to curb media freedom.
According to a press release issued on Monday, WAF expresses concern over intimidation of journalists and condemns the attempts to muzzle media in the shape of a ban on live coverage of outdoor events, especially protests related to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and the unplugging of various private television channels at various times on one pretext or another.
WAF appealed to all media groups and call for immediate safety and security measures for working journalists and full medical cover for their staffers. They also said that WAF believes that media freedom is essential to bring transparency in society as it keeps a check on the govt, the opposition and all public sector organisations and prevents them from straying from the right path.
