Virtual University to start BS degree classes in various subjects

KARACHI- The Virtual University (VU) of Pakistan has announced plans to start admissions (Fall Semester 2003) for the much-awaited Bachelor of Science (4 years, 8 semesters) Degree program in various disciplines.

It is for the first time in Pakistan that a public sector University is offering a 4-year BS degree program in multiple disciplines with the sole objective to harness the potential of the student population of Pakistan by providing them a broad-based, empowering education with options to study at home or at over 150 Virtual campuses set up all over Pakistan.

Dr Naveed A Malik, Rector, Virtual University of Pakistan, while making the announcement, said, “The most important feature of this initiative is that the program, which is being offered by a Federally Chartered university and is fully funded by the Government of Pakistan, will enable students from every corner of the country to choose disciplines of their choice and acquire quality world-class education delivered by some of Pakistan’s most qualified Professors “.

According to a communication received here from Islamabad, the multiple disciplines available in the BS Degree in Liberal Arts program will include Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (majoring in Finance, Marketing, Human Resource Development), Public Administration; Accounting & Finance, Commerce, Economics, Education, Law, Mass Communications, Political Science, Sociology and Statistics.

The Rector, commenting on the quality of education being offered by the University, said, “I have this conviction that Virtual University is making no compromises on quality, and students have to work hard to achieve good grades. The objective is to convert human resource into productive capital for the nation.”

Dr Ata-ur-Rehman, Chairman of Higher Education Commission and Federal Minister of Science and Technology, said, “The quality of education being offered is, indeed, second to none in any part of the world.

The University has to its credit the largest number of Ph.Ds developing and delivering its courses.

With the introduction of this program, the Virtual University will now be able to offer programs suited to a vast majority of students in Pakistan who aspire for a quality degree.”

The Federal Minister for Information and Telecommunications, Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, assured Virtual University of the government’s full support in its quest for excellence.

He said that Government’s commitment in this regard was apparent from the fact that Ministry of Information Technology has already provided funding for the establishment of two television channels, which would be dedicated to education.

Elaborating on the eligibility for admissions, the Rector said that applicants to these programs should have completed 12 years of education culminating in either Intermediate or ‘A’ Level certificates.
