Video shops burnt near Chaman

CHAMAN- Suspected Taliban fugitives have burnt several music shops and games clubs near the Chaman border, witnesses and police said. Journalists with various newspapers and foreign news agencies in Chaman have also received letters and anonymous telephone calls threatening them not to work for Americans or face consequences, officials said.

Police said that the miscreants poured petrol on three music centers selling audio and video cassettes, two snooker clubs and two computer games shops and torched them during the past two nights in Chaman.

There were similar incidents in the nearby Afghan border town of Spin Boldak, travellers from the area said. Pakistani police officials said they believed this was the work of fugitives from Taliban that had banned music.

Witnesses said unidentified people wearing distinctively tied turbans were seen sprinkling petrol on music centers before setting them on fire, and ran away when confronted.
