Umrani left without portfolio

QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani has withdrawn the portfolio of communications and works from provincial Minister Mir Sadiq Ali Umrani, bifurcated it and allotted the two new departments to two legislators belonging to the PPP.

The ministries have been allotted to Mir Madad Ali Jattak and Dr Agha Irfan Karim who had taken oath as ministers three weeks back and were without a portfolio.

“Mir Sadiq Umrani will be part of the cabinet as a minister without portfolio,” an official told Dawn.

Sadiq Umrani is the provincial chief of the Pakistan People’s Party. He was not available for comments.

Madad Ali and Dr Irfan had been removed from the provincial cabinet by the chief minister last year on disciplinary grounds. They were re-inducted into the cabinet as a result of efforts by Mr Umrani.

It was not clear whether they had accepted the portfolios.

According to sources, the chief minister and the provincial party chief have developed differences over the latter’s demands for ouster of the JUI-F from the cabinet and adjustment of PPP’s ministers serving without a portfolio.
