Two cops among four killed in separate acts of violence

KARACHI: At least four persons, including two police officials, were killed and three others injured in separate acts of violence here on Wednesday.

A police sub-inspector, ASI Mohammad Rafiq, 35, son of Atta Mohammad, was shot dead near Al-Haider Sindh Balochistan Hotel within the limits of Memon Goth police station. The ASI was posted at the investigation wing of the same police station.

Police officials said that the ASI went to the hotel for investigation purpose of a case when at least two armed men riding a motorcycle came close to him and opened indiscriminate fire on him. He was shot multiple times and died on the spot. His body was brought to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for medico-legal formalities. He lived in Malir and was the father of five children.

In another incident, a personnel of the Anti-Extremist Cell (AEC) of the Crime Investigation Department, was killed in Block 15, Gulistan-e-Jauhar within the jurisdiction of Shahrah-e-Faisal police station. The deceased was identified as Saeed Mansoori, 45, son of Yasin Mansoori.

An AEC official said that Saeed, due to the intelligence duty, was working as a teacher for physical training at the private school in Gulistan-e-Jauhar and was gunned down in an act of targeted killing.

Separately, Shabbir, 54, son of Saifuddin belonging to Bohra community was gunned down in North Karachi. The victim’s body was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

The incident took place when he accompanied by his friend, Ali, on a motorcycle was returning home from his shop. He was the father of two children and lived in North Nazimabad area. Police officials said that the man was shot once in his head and died on the spot, adding that the motive behind the incident was yet to be ascertained.

Moreover, an elderly woman was killed, while three of her family members were wounded in an armed attack on their house in Baldia Town within the limits of Mochko police station. The deceased was identified as 70-year-old Zulqaro Bibi, 70. Her daughter, Jan Bibi, and two grandsons Shahid Ayaz, 13, and Ashfaq, 10, were also injured in the attack. Deceased and injured were rushed to the Civil Hospital Karachi for an autopsy and medical treatment respectively. Police officials said that they had arrested two of victims’ neighbourers Khalid and Abdullah for attacking the victims’ house over personal dispute and initiated further investigation.
