TUJ observes Black Day

MIRANSHAH (North Waziristan) – On the call of Tribal Union of journalists (TUJ) journalists from all over North Waziristan Agency have observed black day on Sunday for denouncing declaration of State of Emergency in the country.

The TUJ members from allover North Waziristan Agency assembled in the premises of Press Club at Miranshah where four of them went on a token hunger strike for denouncing imposition of emergency, restrictions against media and judiciary.

Those who went on hunger strike were included Mohammad Ayub, Hasham, Rehmat Ullah and Saeed Haleem.

All the four journalists were later on served with juice glasses by senior journalist Haji Pazeer Gul and a number of tribal elders. A large number of tribal elders and stalwarts of different political forces have visited the hunger strike where they extended sympathies with protesting journalists and denounced imposition of emergency in the country.

Addressing the protesting journalists Haji Pazeer Gul has urged President Pervez Musharraf to read on the wall and go for early withdrawal of imposition of state of emergency in the country.

He said that there was no justification for an individual to make hostage the whole of the country. He said that journalists, judges, lawyers and democratic minded politicians and political workers were determined to continue efforts for restoration writ of law and supremacy of the constitution.

He on this occasion assured the Pakistan Federal Union of journalists (PFUJ) of their wholehearted support in its struggle for press freedom.
