Tribesmen protest suspension of cellular service

LANDIKOTAL: People from various walks of life here on Sunday held a protest demonstration, demanding restoration of mobile phone service in the area.

Hundreds of protesters carrying placards inscribed with their demands gathered at the main bazaar of the city.

Mobile phone services had been suspended in the city for the last three months, whereas in Jamrud and Bara mobile phones are functional despite military offensives.

ANP leader Shah Hussain Shinwari, said on the occasion, that despite absence of services law and order situation in the area was worsening with each passing day. He blamed political administration for the deteriorating situation.

“It is just a lame excuse by the administration to suspend services on the pretext of maintaining peace in the area,” he said. “Over 600 people have lost jobs owing to suspension of the service,” he added.

JI leader Muqtadar Shah criticized the administration for not restoring the services. “Their unavailability is causing psychological strain as well as financial losses to the locals,” he argued.
