Training workshop for journalists

PESHAWAR- Arnold “Skip” lsaacs, International trainer and freelance journalist has said that news media play a crucial role, telling voters what they need to know to make an informed choice.

Conducting a daylong training workshop for journalists here at Peshawar entitled “Investigative journalism and Elections Reporting” arranged by the Public Af­fairs Section of US Consulate Pe­shawar Mr. Isaacs said on the day of election, journalists can monitor the process of voting and the vote count to help citizens know if the election was fairly conducted and truly reflects vot­ers decisions.

“Think of the campaign as a job interview that we are conducting for the public who will do the hiring, Isaacs told the journalist participants hailing both from print and electronic media saying explain issues through ‘big picture’ stories, case stud­ies, and stories reporting ‘knowledgeable experts views of both the nature and extent of problems and possible so­lutions adding that “don’t forget issues of transparency and openness in government while trying to avoid being used to spread false or misleading charges”.

During the workshop Mr. Isaacs, who worked as a reporter, correspondent and editor as a journalist and served as a trainer of international journalism train­ing across the world countries beside author of several books including ‘Vietnam Shadows’ said that be aware of rumours and cheek their credibility adding plan to present basic voter education information- where to vote, how to vote and how to report irregularities or abuses, saying it should be reported on a regular basis through the campaign period.
