Traders vow to get Geo Super transmission restored

RAWALPINDI: Traders of Rawalpindi have announced that if the chief justice of Pakistan can be got restored, they would also get the transmission of Geo Super restored.

“The injustice with the Jang and Geo should be stopped. The cheap tactics of the government and Pemra (Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority) against the Jang Group are a black spot on 300-year history of journalism. Traders have given Geo Super a public licence”, speakers said while addressing the participants of a protest demonstration on Murree Road here Wednesday under the auspices of Markazi Tanzeem Tajiran, Rawalpindi, against the suspension of the Geo Super transmission.

Those who spoke on the occasion included Markazi Tanzeem Tajiran President Chaudhry Imran, Tariq Munir Butt, Mian Imran, Haji Ismail, Sheikh Sadaqat and Qari Qasim. Aziz Mohmand and Rana Ghulam Qadir addressed the protesters on behalf of the workers of Jang and Geo. On the occasion, traders vociferously chanted slogans and demanded immediate restoration of the Geo Super transmission.

Chaudhry Imran said there is a democracy and judiciary is independent in the country today because of media. He said that Asif Ali Zardari and Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani are the president and prime minister of the country today because of media. He said dictator like Pervez Musharraf too was compelled by media to flee the country. He said the rulers should fear from the time when people would hold them accountable.

Sheikh Sadaqat said they salute the Jang and Geo management that always supported the truth and highlighted the public problems. He said that today traders of the city have issued public licence to the Geo Super.

Haji Muhammad Ismail said that the injustice with the Jang and Geo should be stopped. He said if the chief justice of Pakistan could be got restored, they could also get the transmission of the Geo Super restored.

Tariq Munir Butt said the rulers did not like the truth and the cruel and corrupt rulers could not tolerate entertainment of masses in their houses because they wanted to keep public tense. Qari Qasim said that the gathering of traders demands restoration of the Geo Super transmission. He said the only crime of the Jang and Geo Group is that they expose the misdeeds of the government.

Mian Imran said that every Pakistani is worried because of the terrorism, suicide attacks and deteriorating law and order situation. He said the sports channels provide healthy entertainment to masses and this is the reason that sports channel are airing broadcasts across the globe. Lauding the services of the Jang and Geo, he demanded immediate restoration of the Geo Super transmission.

Speaking on behalf of the Jang and Geo workers, Aziz Mohmand said that 50 days have passed since the Pemra officials suspended the Geo Super transmission on the instructions of the rulers, who want to teach a lesson to the Jang and Geo for exposing the corruption and blunders of the government. He said the government ads are not being released to the Jang Group for the last two years and the quota of the group has been slashed despite having large circulation.

Rana Ghulam Qadir said that the Jang Group is not facing the government’s ban for the first time. He recalled that efforts have also been made in the past to suspend publication of daily Jang but the Jang Group never compromised principles. He said the rulers could not stifle the voice of the Jang Group because 180 million people of the country are with the group.

On the occasion, the protesters chanted slogans like “Let the Geo live”, “media wants freedom” and “long live Geo Super”, etc. On repeated suspension of electricity during the protest demonstration, the participants also chanted slogans of “shame, shame”.
