Lahore: Business Recorder Logo The total size of the information technology sector is estimated at about $2.8 billion in the country, which can reach $5 billion within one year, provided payment gateway facilities are available in Pakistan. Sources told Business Recorder that IT sector has made considerable progress during the last few years but still there is a lot of room for making further advancement.

Sources claimed that the Punjab government has taken various measures for the rapid development of the province and promotion of information technology for equipping youth with the modern knowledge. “With setting up of IT labs in more than 4000 schools of the Punjab province is proving to be a milestone in the uplift of education sector,” they said and added, “An Information Technology Park (ITP) would be constructed to promote IT activities. This IT Park would be a hub of IT activities while private sector would be offered facilities regarding establishment of the park.”

They said that the government has completed IT labs project in 4,286 schools of the province at a cost of Rs 5 billion in a record period of time. More than 3.4 million students would benefit from this project annually. The sources claimed that the Punjab government was taking solid measures for the elimination of poverty and unemployment from the province, and attention is also being paid to the promotion of vocational education and development of livestock sector. The Punjab government’s decision to break the begging bowl by declining foreign aid would not hit the education and health sectors, the sources said.
