The Punjab Union of Journalists continues protest against PECA ordinance

LAHORE: The Punjab Union of Journalists (PUJ) continued its protest against the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) Amendment Ordinance on third consecutive day in front of the Lahore Press Club on Sunday.

The journalists displayed banners, placards and raised slogans against the government’s actions to silence dissent. A large number of political, civil society leaders expressed solidarity with the journalists struggling to resist the draconian law, which is aimed to impose restrictions on freedom of expression.

PPP Lahore chapter President Ch Aslam Gill, PMLN leader Mian Marghoob Ahmad, Awami Workers Party (AWP) General Secretary Bakhshal Thalho, human rights activist and AWP leader Farzana Bari, Sheikhupura Press Club office-bearers Shahbaz Khan and Safdar Shaheen and others joined the journalists in their protest camp and promised complete support against the PECA ordinance.

Addressing the participants of the protest camp, PPP Lahore President Ch Aslam Gill said that the PECA law is an expression of dictatorial thinking, adding that the PPP stands with the journalists’ organisations.
