=> Telecommunication networks, including cellular-pho

Telecommunication networks, including cellular-phone services and landline phones, remained suspended in the entire country for over four hours following the assassination of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairperson Benazir Bhutto in a suicide attack Thursday evening in Rawalpindi.

Immediately after news of her death spread, people tried to contact others through their cell-phones but they failed to get through either through calls or text messages.

The landline situation was similar too, and almost every call was countered with a recorded voice telling callers that their call could not be put through owing to busy lines.

A Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL) official acknowledged that the network was disturbed, but said that connectivity was improving after 10:00 p.m.

He said that excessive load on the PTCL network was causing the disruption of the network.

Some cellular company officials also attributed the connectivity problems to excessive loads on their networks, but said that the situation would improve after a couple of hours.
