Taliban urged to release UK journalist

PESHAWAR- The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has resented the comments reportedly made by a senior official in Afghanistan’s ruling Taliban militia, accusing British journalist Yvonne Ridley of “ill intentions’ and calling her as an agent of “special forces. According to a Press release issued here US-based by CPJ, Taliban soldiers arrested Ridley, a reporter for London’s Sunday Express along with two male guides near Jalalabad.

According to a Reuter’s report Qudratullah Jamal, the Taliban Information Minister, called the arrested journalist as an agent of “special forces” as espionage activities are considered common in Afghanistan.

The journalists body has urged the Taliban administration to immediately release the foreign journalist.
