Taliban faction bans non-local journalists
MIRAMSHAH: Militants banned the entry of non-local journalists into the North Waziristan Agency, alleging most of the outsiders were spreading propaganda against them.
“Majority of the reporters coming from outside spread disinformation about this place which has forced us to ban their entry into the area,” the militants said in a statement on Friday.
“We respect journalists, but wish to warn them in advance against coming to North Waziristan for coverage of the displaced people or the operation in South Waziristan,” said the statement released by Ahmadullah Ahmadi, a spokesman for Pakistani Taliban commander for North Waziristan, Hafiz Gul Bahadar. Journalists who violated the ban would be dealt with in accordance with the Taliban ‘rules and regulations’ and their equipment would be confiscated by the Taliban, said the statement.
