Stranger’ forced to leave press club

QUETTA, April 24: Journalists and newspaper workers staged a demonstration against forced entry into the Quetta Press Club of a man suspected of working for a secret agency. They also raised slogans against the government for serving notice on the Aaj television network.

According to the press club’s secretary general Razaur Rahman, the man, Mohammad Amin, entered the conference hall of the club while lawyers were addressing a press conference.

An employee refused to allow Mohammad Amin to enter the premises.

This enraged the man and he started hurling abuses at journalists. The man also threatened the club’s employees with dire consequences. He left the place after some senior journalists and lawyers intervened.

The Quetta Press Club lodged a report with the police over the incident.

Later, journalists and newspaper workers held a demonstration against the government.

Speaking to the protesters, the office-bearers of different journalist bodies condemned the government for issuing notice to the Aaj TV and imposing a fine of Rs 25,000 on the ARY channel.

They called for action against the `secret agency man’ and withdrawal of the notice issued to Aaj TV.
