Spell of winter rain gives agriculture, livestock sectors a boost

LAHORE: The first on going countrywide winter rain spell has given boost to the agriculture and livestock sectors as the 40 percent water deficit Rabbi crops, including staple food wheat, grams, oil seeds, vegetables, citrus

fruit orchards and fodder for livestock urgently needed second watering after sowing specially in the rain fed areas at a critical stage of their growth.

The rain has also helped clear the environmental pollution causing difficulty in breathing, coughing and eye sore.

The Met Office said that a westerly wave is affecting upper parts of the country and may persist till Wednesday. Rain-thunderstorm (with snowfall over the hills) occurred at scattered places in Punjab, Kashmir, KP and Gilgit-Baltistan while at isolated places in upper Sindh and Barkhan on Sunday. It recorded rainfall (in mm) as under:
